French Horns

Holton

All Holton French Horns, including the single and double models, feature valve rotors that are tapered. This is so that as the valve wears, it automatically seats itself. This includes the bearing surfaces axles on each end of the valve and the bearing plates. All of our French Horn bells are made with overlapped seams. This is much more durable than one made with a butt seam. It also produces a better tone and timbre. This is one of the outstanding characteristics on which Holton French Horns developed its reputation. We feature four different sizes of bell throats, small, medium, large, and extra large. All are hand hammered with a 12 ¼” diameter except for the children’s French Horns which are 10”.

The Farkas wrap is similar in some ways to the other wraps, however is recognized by its independent tuning system which is found on all Holton Farkas and Merker models. This allows a player to tune the Bb-side of the Horn separate from the F-side of the Horn or visa/versa.

The Geyer wrap has become popular as of recent years. It is easy to recognize because of the straight four in-line valves. Players like it because it is a very fine orchestral Horn. The Bb/F rotor is positioned to facilitate smooth slurs between the F & Bb. The Merker model H-192 features the Geyer wrap.

The Kruspe wrap has been an industry favorite for years. It is easily recognized by the smaller F/Bb fourth switch valve which is off-set from the other valves. Also, there is no Bb slide attached to it. The Holton H-105 utilizes this wrap.

FL302
Selmer, noted for excellence in saxophones and clarinets, also offers a comprehensive line of flutes. Manufactured in Elkhart, Indiana, Selmer flutes combine traditional handcraftsmanship with advanced computerized technology. Beginning students can start with the model FL302, featuring accurate intonation, quick response using thinner .018" body-foot tubing, and the security of ribbed construction to maintain regulation.

Selmer understands the needs of student musicians. That's why we make clarinets that start their careers in the right direction. The internal bore design of the Selmer CL Series clarinets (models CL301, CL311, CL201, CL211) compares to many professional handmade clarinets. The use of carefully located tapers (conical) and straight (cylindrical) sections creates a smooth, consistent scale. Selmer CL Series clarinets enable musicians of all ages and abilities to produce a refined, resonant tone quality. The shape of the Selmer CL Series clarinet bore results in an instrument in tune with itself. Play a low G, add the register key to produce the D a twelfth above and check the pitch of both notes; they should register as in tune. Do the same with low A and middle E, low Bb and middle F, low Bn and middle F#. Critical undercutting of the tone holes refines this tuning process and enhances a full, even sound over the entire range. The Selmer CL Series makes playing the clarinet effortless. Key placement and size becomes very critical for young musicians. Small fingers can easily cover the profile and size of the CL301?s ring keys. Ergonomic positioning of the left-hand little finger keys and throat A facilitates advanced technique. An adjustable right-hand thumb rest on models CL311 and CL211 allows for a personalized feel. Use of professional-style tapered pivot screws on all Selmer clarinets lends a light, positive action.

The Selmer LaVoix II story is about sound. Your sound.
Express yourself through a voice based on the great Selmer tradition. Selmer LaVoix II saxophones are fun to play because they sound great, respond even better, and play in tune. Period.
No sonic stones, no huge bells, no zebra finishes. These saxophones are all horn - no hype.
These new soprano, alto, tenor and baritone models are capturing the interest of today’s upcoming artists and delivering a modern French sound at an exceptional price. These new instruments incorporate the "right" features, resulting in instruments that are lighter in weight and deliver all the performance demanded by today’s top players.
The acoustic response of Selmer LaVoix II saxophones is quick and fluid through all registers and the neck is specially designed with slight resistance. This combination provides for superior response, and teachers also prefer it for embouchure and air stream development. Key design is compact with professional spring tension for quicker facility. Other features include a traditional bell flare, high F# (G on soprano), mini-rib construction (except soprano), multiple adjusting screws, and treated leather pads.
The instruments feature Selmer USA mouthpieces that help to create an even tone, excellent response and steady intonation. New lighter weight cases thoroughly protect the instruments and offer excellent storage capacity.
Standard finish for alto and tenor is clear lacquer on yellow brass. Optional finishes include copper brass, black nickel plate with lacquer keys, and bright silver plate. The soprano and baritone models feature clear lacquer over rose brass, adding a warmer timbre always appreciated on the soprano and respected on the baritone. All models feature fine engraving on their bodies and bells.
