Artist's BiographyA 40 year veteran of the percussion and audio industry, Ward has extensive experience in virtually every facet of the field. Mr. Durrett held the position of Western Regional Sales Manager for McCormicks Enterprises from 1978 through 1980: served as Educational Director of the Slingerland Drum Co. from 1980 through 1983; was Director of Admissions at the VanderCook College of Music in Chicago from 1984 through 1989, then became Marketing Mgr. for the Ludwig Drum Co. from 1989 through 1992.
Mr. Durretts percussion teaching credentials include the University of Northern Colorado Pride of the Rockies Marching Band; Instructor of Percussion at Colorado State University as well as Colorado Christian University, and percussion instructor/ arranger at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois. He also contributed to the early percussion programs of the Guardsmen and the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps.
A graduate of Millikin University and the US Navy School of Music, Mr. Durrett has performed with such noted artists as composer Ralph Carmichael, singer Dave Boyer, pianist Chuck Lamb, singer Carol Lawrence, big band leaders Bob Crosby, Les Elgart, Ray McKinley and Al Pierson (Guy Lombardo Orchestra); entertainer Sheri Lewis, and Lawrence Welk accordionist Myron Floren.
In December of 2000, Ward was the first percussionist to be inducted into the WGI Hall of Fame in recognition of his pioneering efforts in the development of the indoor competitive percussion activity, and he served as both Percussion Coordinator and Chief Judge for that organization.
As a commercial audio consultant, Mr. Durrett works with the Special Events Department of the town of Estes Park Colorado as audio specialist. In 2003 Ward directed the development of the specialized wireless electronics utilized by the The Stampede, the Official Drumline of the Denver Broncos, and the first official drumline of the National Football League. He also serves as senior consultant to the Highland Sound Company, the sound reinforcement contractor created exclusively for the Longs Peak Scottish Irish Highland Festival in Colorado, the largest festival of its kind in North America.
