Artist's BiographyMatt Vashlishan is currently located in the northeast Tri-State area, where he is actively developing his replutation as a freelance musician and educator. Originally from the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, Matt grew up around many notable jazz artists such as David Liebman, Phil Woods, Urbie Green, and others. He uses this unique influence regularly in his playing as well as teaching.
Mattâ€™s performance experience includes performing with artists such as Phil Woods, David Liebman, Vic Juris, Ian Froman, Bill Goodwin, Phil Markowitz, Bruce Hornsby, Michael Feinstein, Dave Grusin, Patty Austin, Nester Torres, and many others. His large ensemble credentials include the Phil Woods Big Band, Dave Rivello Ensemble, Alan Baylock Orchestra, Florida Pops, the Charles Tolliver Big Band, and the Stephen Guerra Big Band.
Aside from jazz performance in saxophone (alto, soprano, C-Melody, and tenor specifically), Matt also plays flutes, clarinet, and the Akai Electric Wind Instrument. He has performed in the orchestra for several musicals and has toured the world performing on four different cruise ships.
Mattâ€™s constantly growing discography includes two CDâ€™s released under is own name and direction as well as sideman work in a variety of styles. He has also co-authored and collaborated with David Liebman on several publications available through Jamey Aebersold Jazz and Advance Music.
